It All Started with the Movie RIO
My daughter has been watching the movie RIO on repeat ever since we brought the DVD home several weeks ago. She loves the music and sings and dances as if she's auditing for FAME. To be honest, I completely understand why she loves it. The colors and visual effects are stunning! There's a part of the movie where tourists are hang gliding off the side of a mountain. For some reason, every time it comes on, I think to myself, "I want to do that". But when? How? It so happens that I just finished reading "A Million Miles in a Thousand Years" by Donald Miller. This all has me thinking differently about my life and the story that I am telling with it. So today when I came across this video, it solidified my desire to do more.
The idea of "more" is funny, because I already do a lot. So, my more might need to be less. I've been on this path since I left high school as many of you have. I went to college, got some degrees and started a career. I've had a lot of fun, so I haven't really thought about a bigger life or a different journey. Although my friends who have traveled to Africa have done so to do mission work or research, I just happened to find myself on the continent. With each trip, I've really fallen more and more in love with it and count it as a true blessing in my life, but it really was not on my list of things to do before I die. In fact, I have no list. My friend, Jada, does all this amazing stuff each year. She plans out these adventures and travels all around the world. She's done everything from sky diving on her 30th birthday to yoga retreats in Costa Rica. It's not that I don't travel, it's that I don't really have a plan. Before I had my baby, I went to Miami to think about it all. I checked myself into a hotel on the beach and started to plan. What happened after a few days is that I met some people, started going out, and abandoned the life planning all together. It seemed like this was the best way to live. Spontaneous. Unstructured. Taking things as they come.
Today, I'm going to give it another shot. I'm going to think about what I truly want to do and the best way for me to make an impact on this earth. I'll keep you posted on what I come up with. In the meantime, check out this video and let me know if it inspires you. My personal favorite is the LEARN video. It's so inspiring!
