African Americans at Home
Here are some more rooms from the book "Style and Grace, African Americans at Home" by Michael Henry Adams. Above is the New York apartment of Emil Wilberkin. I love how he mixes photography and art with his many books for one crisp and clever installation. I could really use those chairs. They are perfectly worn. I'd love to hear their story.
There are many rooms in Richard Dudley's home that I think are great. It was difficult not to post them all. I chose this one for Richard's use of sculptures in the space. The rooms feels as though it has a soul and a special story to tell. We don't see a lot of this type of design any more where the art is use as the focal point in this way. If there was one thing that I would steal from this space besides the sculpture of the man kneeling above, it would be the wonderfully woven tapestry that Richard has used as an area rug. How excellent!
Ok I did use this exact image from Courtney Sloane and Cheryl Riley last year, but I couldn't help it. It is one of my favorites. when I decided to go back to the book, I gravitated towards it again. The space is just so visually interesting. Every time I look at it, I find something new to love. I wonder if I could find a way to get that black and white statue to my house.
